At this initial stage the painter makes free use of the pencil, until he gives the oil painting the contours, which will at a later stage be used to distinguish the subjects and strenghten the forms.The oil painting looks like a sketch but in fact a lot of time is needed to achieve the clear outlines that form the different subjects.
