Fritz Overbeck Biography
Born on September 15, 1869 in Bremen and died on June 9, 1909 in Brocken bei Vegesack. Already during his time at the Academy in Dusseldorf from 1884 to 1893, Overbeck maintained contact with Otto Modersohn in Worpswede, where he was to later take up residence between 1894 and 1905. Through his originality, Overbeck, who was also a member of the Berlin Secession, stands apart from the Dusseldorf School of painters. His landscape paintings, often filled with strong color contrasts and sweeping expanses, were mostly executed starting 1895 devoid of staffage figures and in a diversity of styles.
