Gaspard Dughet Biography
Gaspard Dughet cultivated a picturesque style that highlighted and idealized the effects of dramatic skies, irregular rock and tree formations, and distant horizons. Though the Museum's landscape contains classical references, Gaspard Dughet did not aspire to the profound intellectual interpretation of the past found in Poussin as much as a consciously sensual representation of nature. Gaspard Dughet's pictures brought him great success and were avidly sought by English collectors.
