Evelyn de Morgan Pickering Biography
Pickering, was an English painter influenced greatly by the Pre-Raphaelite Movement. Her works are mostly figural on mythological themes.
Pickering's most known painting Cadmus and Harmonia was one of the first nudes painted by a woman to appear in public, and it was on the basis of this daring submission to the Dudley Gallery that Evelyn Pickering was invited to participate in the inaugural Grosvenor Gallery exhibition in 1877. Pickering trained under Poynter at the Slade, leaving the school in 1875 to pursue a separate course of study in Italy.
