David Johnson Biography

David Johnson primarily taught himself to paint, but was elected to the National Academy of Design. His early ?luminist? style paintings with their detail, bright palette, and smooth texture were very popular. Critics and the public did not like his later works which were darker, less detailed and with heavily applied paint.
