Thomas Hovenden Biography

Thomas Hovenden was born in Dummanway, Ireland. He emigrated to the USA (1863) and was based in Philadelphia. A deeply sympathetic man, he is known for his genre studies of black Americans, such as Breaking Home Ties (1890). Hovenden died while trying to save a young girl from an onrushing train.
