Canaletto specialized in wieldy topographical views for the tourist market 0f Florence and Venice and became a much sought-after painter in the landscape genre. Canaletto was so successful in fact that in the course of the 1730s, assisted by his pupils, he must have produced hundreds and perhaps even more landscape views, occasionally in series of twenty or more.
