OIL PAINTING: The French Theatre Plaza, 1898
One can see now how Pissaro's insights drew him to new styles. Pissaro kept the same dedication to younger artists, such as his close friend Paul Cezanne, and to decorative form. Compared to Georges Seurat, but not unlike Paul Signac, Pissaro's space is flatter and his light less vivid, like in ''The French Theatre Plaza''. Compared to Degas' painting, too, brushstrokes are larger and firmer.
