ALTHOUGH this work is not dated, it is known to have been first exhibited in 1905, suggesting it was completed around that time; several years after most Pre-Raphaelite works were produced. Although not strictly a Pre-Raphaelite artist, Brickdale was influenced by their style and took her inspiration from almost identical sources. Natural Magic was inspired by a poern of Robert Browning's of the same name. In essence, Brickdale was a Pre-Raphaelite who had moved on "with the times.
