One of the original members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Hunt developed a style of symbolic realism where subjects were used to suggest ideas on a religious or moral theme. Hunt was famous for his luminous use of colour, a technique that became all the more intense after several years spent painting in the Holy Land.
