OIL PAINTINGS BY GENRE - Mountain and Forest Paintings
The Mountains have always been appreciated for their visual and inspirational splendor. In the nineteenth century, as access to the mountains became easier, artists began making the mountains a subject for their art. During this period the celebration of the mountains landscapes became part of the intellectual ferment of the time. It was then , when American artists first began to travel to the White Mountains of New Hampshire to paint and sketch. These early paintings portrayed a dramatic landscape with an emphasis on nature and man's insignificance. These early artists were the founders of the style of painting that would later be called the "Hudson River School".In this section you can view hundreds of great mountains landscapes paintings.
